Phoenix
Part 74: Dreams Come True
The next morning
The apartment is completely quiet.
Phoenix and Albatross are sleeping deeply, curled up together, as if their bodies know there is no need to hurry.
Light slowly seeps in through the window.
Albatross moves first—not to an alarm clock, not to any sound, but to a natural awakening, as he feels Phoenix breathing softly against his chest.
He opens his eyes but doesn’t look down right away… he just feels the warmth, the closeness.
Then, slowly, he looks at Phoenix.
ALBATROSS (smiling to himself):
“Even in her sleep… she’s beautiful.”
One of Phoenix’s arms rests on his chest, her hair falling messily across her face.
Albatross gently brushes it aside, carefully, so he doesn’t wake her.
For a moment, he simply watches her.
No rush. No ringing phones.
Just the sound of their breathing.
Phoenix stirs slightly, then slowly opens her eyes.
When she sees Albatross awake, smiling at her, she blushes.
PHOENIX (softly):
“Have you been awake long…?”
ALBATROSS (gently):
“Just now. I like seeing you like this… when you’re not rushing anywhere.”
Phoenix touches Albatross’s hand and snuggles closer with a smile.
The kitchen comes to life later than usual today.
There’s no rushing. No “we have to go.”
Just the two of them.
Albatross makes coffee. Phoenix leans sleepily against the counter.
PHOENIX (smiling):
“I slept too well…”
ALBATROSS:
“I know. You were with me all night.”
Phoenix blushes. Albatross sets a mug in front of her.
They make breakfast together, laughing quietly, exchanging small smiles.
The world could fit between them—but right now, they exist only for each other.
When they really do have to leave, Albatross walks Phoenix to the car.
He takes her home first so she can change, like always.
They don’t talk much, but the silence is comfortable, safe.
As Phoenix gets out of the car, Albatross calls after her.
ALBATROSS (softly):
“We’ll see each other this afternoon…”
PHOENIX (with a faint smile):
“I know.”
Phoenix disappears through the gate.
Albatross drives on.
They go to work separately—so no one will suspect what’s between them.
